After enrolling, your next step is to get your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). This permit lets you practice driving a commercial vehicle. To get started, you’ll fill out a CDL application, pay a $25 fee, and take a few written tests. These tests cover topics like General Knowledge, Texas Commercial Rules, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles. You can also choose to take extra tests for special endorsements like passenger buses, tankers, or specific cargo types.
After finishing your training at ACIS Institute, you're ready to apply for your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). In Texas, you must hold your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days before taking the skills test. You’ll need to complete the CDL application, provide the required documents, and pay the fee. Once you pass the knowledge exam, you can schedule your driving skills test and move closer to earning your CDL.
